Design of a coupling with bolted connectors
For cables with wire or tape shielding
A yellow void-filling mastic shall be rolled over the cut-off point of the semi-conductive insulation shield and a thermoshrinking electric field control tube shall be planted on each end of the cable strand. The cores shall be connected with the screw connectors included in the coupling kit and a wide electric field control tape shall be wrapped on top. A double-layer Thermo shrink elastomeric tube shall be planted on the cores to provide the required insulation thickness and shielding over the insulation. A copper mesh wrapped around the splice area of the cores serves as a metallic shield for the cable in the sleeve. For cables with wire shielding, the sleeve set shall include a bolted connector for wire splicing, and cables with strip shielding, the sleeve set shall include a non-solderable fitting for shield splicing. For armoured cables, a metal band or a metal sheath provides additional mechanical protection. External protection and sealing of the sleeve shall be provided by a thick-walled Thermo shrink tube with an inner surface coated with a layer of thermosetting adhesive.
Additional sealing kit for the connection of a three-conductor cable to a single conductor
The design of the transition sleeve is the same as that of the sleeve for the connection of two three-core cables. The sealing of the outer tube on single-core cables is ensured by a Thermo shrink glove. A non-solderable earthing fitting allows the connection of shields of all typical constructions.
Connecting sleeve design without connectors
For cables with wire or strip shielding
A yellow void-filling mastic shall be rolled over the cut-off point of the semi-conductive conductive shield and the connector. A thermoshrinking electric field control tube shall be planted on each strand of the cable at the splice area. The double-layered Thermo shrink elastomeric tube shall provide the required insulation thickness and shielding over the insulation. A copper mesh wrapped over the stranded area of the joint shall act as a metallic shield for the cable in the sleeve. For cables with shielding strips, the sleeve shall include a solderless fitting for connecting the shields. For armoured cables, a metal band or a metal sheath provides additional mechanical protection. External protection and sealing of the sleeve shall be provided by a thick-walled Thermo shrink tube with an inner surface coated with a thermosetting adhesive.
Design of the transition coupling from a three-conductor to a single-conductor cable
The design of the transition coupling shall be the same as that of the coupling for the connection of two three-conductor cables. The sealing of the outer tube on single-core cables is ensured by special sealing pins.
